Privacy policy
This policy explains what personal information RetaRadar ("we") processes when you use retaradar.co.za. We follow South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
Who is responsible
RetaRadar is responsible for the personal information described here. For any privacy question or request, write to contact@retaradar.co.za.
What we collect
- Nothing through the site itself. The site has no accounts, forms, comments or newsletter. It sets no cookies and uses no analytics, advertising or tracking scripts.
- Technical data handled by our host. The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. To deliver pages and protect the site from abuse, Cloudflare processes technical data such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- Emails you send us. If you email contact@retaradar.co.za, we receive your email address, name (if given) and your message.
We do not ask for, and ask you not to send us, health information about yourself or anyone else.
Cookies and similar technologies
We do not set cookies, and the site does not use local storage or fingerprinting. Fonts and images are served from our own domain, so opening a page does not send requests to font or advertising networks.
Cloudflare may use strictly necessary security measures to protect the site from attacks. See Cloudflare's policy above for details.
Information about sellers
To rate sellers, we record information that the seller or a third party has published, for example a company name, CIPC registration number, business address, public contact details, lab reports and public customer reviews. POPIA also protects information about companies. We process it because it is public, and because rating sellers against published rules is in the legitimate interest of buyers. We only use it for our ratings, and we do not collect private information about the people who run the businesses.
Why we use it
- Technical data: to run and secure the site.
- Emails: to reply to you and, for sellers, to re-check evidence you send.
- Public seller information: to score sellers and explain the scores.
We do not sell or share your personal information, and we do not use it for marketing.
Who else sees it
- Cloudflare hosts the site and forwards email sent to our address to our mailbox.
- Our email provider stores the messages we receive.
We do not give personal information to anyone else, unless the law requires it.
Information stored outside South Africa
Cloudflare and our email provider run servers in many countries, so your information may be processed outside South Africa. POPIA allows this when the recipient is bound by rules that give similar protection. Both providers publish their data protection terms.
How long we keep it
We keep emails for as long as needed to deal with your message and any follow-up re-check, and for at most two years after that. Public seller information stays in our records for as long as the seller is rated, so that every change to a score can be traced.
How we protect it
The site is served only over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. Only the people who run RetaRadar have access to our mailbox and hosting accounts.
Your rights
Under POPIA you may ask us to confirm what personal information we hold about you, correct it or delete it, and you may object to its processing. Write to contact@retaradar.co.za. We answer requests within 30 days. You may also complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa (inforegulator.org.za).
Children
The site is written for adults. It is not meant for children, and we do not knowingly collect information about anyone under 18.
Links to other sites
Our pages link to seller sites, laboratories, regulators and journals. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for how they handle your information.
Changes
If we change this policy, for example by adding analytics, we will update this page and the date below.
